Duke's Harry Giles has signed a long-term contract with the Brooklyn Nets. The value of the contract is approximately $2 million.

It was a bittersweet Sunday for NBA teams, as they made final decisions on partially guaranteed contracts before they became fully guaranteed for the season. For Duke product Harry Giles, the day brought great news, as he secured his permanent spot on the Brooklyn Nets roster!

Giles, the 20th overall pick in the 2017 draft, faced uncertainty due to his injury-plagued career. But Brooklyn coach Jacques Vaughn put those concerns to rest, confirming Giles' permanence before Sunday's home game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Fellow Duke recruit Trendon Watford also received the good news.

"Dinner is on those two tonight," Vaughn joked, according to Nets reporter Erik Slater.

The 25-year-old Giles, once the top-ranked 2016 prep recruit, expressed his gratitude on social media: "Beyond grateful for this opportunity. Been through too much to let this slip away. Let's work!!"

While his one-year contract is worth just over $2 million, Giles' impact extends beyond the financial. He's averaged 4.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in limited minutes (5.9 per game), shooting a solid 51.5% from the field. But his infectious personality and inspiring comeback story are equally valuable in the Nets' locker room.

Giles joins fellow Blue Devil Dariq Whitehead on the Brooklyn roster. The 2023 sharpshooter has seen limited action with the Nets, spending most of his time developing with the Long Island Nets in the G League.

Giles' permanent status is a testament to his hard work and perseverance, and his positive energy adds another layer of excitement to the Nets' young squad. While Sunday marked the end of uncertainty for some, it also serves as a reminder of the opportunities that lie ahead for aspiring players like Whitehead.
